The location was Egypt, circa 3500 BC when a game called Senet began and this game is similar to our game called Backgammon. Although the real beginning is impossible to trace and will be a mystery forever, there are variations along with its expansion found in many parts of the world.
Over time, backgammon could be documented to a few places, one being Oxford Universal Dictionary in 1645 but the first rules were penned in 1743. During the 1920 the doubling cube was introduced and formal laws were established in sports clubs in 1931. It was not until 1964 that the first tournament was arranged in the Bahamas and then in 1967 in Las Vegas, was the first World Championships.
